Started out slow, was having problems with the video cutting off throughout show. However pick up intensely after the acquittal. The femme fatale was rather homely looking, but she nailed her role. I was happy to learned that Raymond Burr realized that they had to pay; her for Murder, and him for being a lowdown snake friend that got her off the hook. Very good Film Noir. Would have rated it higher without the slow start, and the fact that in real life an attorney would have to be recused else that would be a mistrial. At least that's my thought; correct me if i'm wrong.

Although a little hard to figure at first, this movie quickly became one of my all time favorites. It came out the year I was born and I bet it was a little racy for the era. I loved this movie, give it a chance.

Landed on this site as a just browsing thing. This movie with Raymond Burr & Angela Lansbury was awesome. I really enjoyed it and its peaked my appetite for more similar fare .. Tv has been very blah for me in recent years so I typically read in the evenings, but I liked this suspenseful flick very much.

Great twist on a common theme. It's usually the woman bent on revenge on a cheating man. This was just the opposite, with a few nice twists. Was expecting this to end with a pan to the portrait. Enjoyed this.

Raymond Burr was obviously practicing to be Perry Mason, and he did a great job, after so many other heavy (physically and plot-wise) roles in other films noir. Also Angela Lansbury was practicing for her future role as the diabolical Mrs. Iselin in The Manchurian Candidate, and she too did wonderfully. More twists and turns in the plot than a '67 Barbie doll! Highly recommended for film noir fans. The abrupt ending at the credits is a bit disconcerting, though.

Especially in the beginning, but throughout as well, the noir visual effects are terrific. Very well done. The city streets at night, wow. For me, the plot is a bit too tidy and circumstantial, but I won't spoil it. Raymond Burr was born to play a lawyer, of course. And Angela is always impressive.
As a screenwriter, I try to present villainy in terms that anyone watching could identify with or at least comprehend. Dramatically, to see a well-intentioned person --- somebody who thinks they know themselves --- either dragged or lured farther and farther out toward the edge, the trap, to where they abandon or compromise their fundamental morality or yield to the horrific impulse; that is more cinematically interesting than a one-dimensional "bad guy.". In this flm, both Burr and Lansbury, are pulled into a net of evil. There are no heroes here. See what you think.
